A CEDAR RAPIDS WINTER WEDDING

Weddings

With light pouring in from all directions as he stared out onto the street below. Cars were driving by and people were hurrying off in every direction. A stark difference to the silence on the other side of the window. He had gotten ready just steps away from her with only a wall to separate them. He could hear the excitement as she got her hair and makeup done. The squeals as she stepped into her dress. All the noise just adding to the excitement of the day.

But now, it was silent. Up above, he could hear the love of his soon to be father in law seeing her for the first time. The soft spoken words exchanged between a father and his daughter on her wedding day. Then after a few minutes, the silence returned only to be interrupted by the soft ding of an elevator door. He could hear the quiet footsteps of someone walking towards him. Then a moment of silence before she called out his name. Finally, the time had come.

He was finally going to see his bride.

He slowly turned away from the window. She stood before him sparkling in the light as if a thousand little stars were sewn one by one into the fabric. The noise of the street and the chaos of the outside world long forgotten. All he could see was her, his bride, on the happiest day of their lives.
