Wedding season has officially begun and what better place to kick things off than Pinter’s Event Center.
I met up with Kelly at the historic Hotel Winneshiek. And I could have spent all day photographing her stunning dress in the dramatic lighting all around the hotel. But before long we were ready to leave. We made our way to Logan’s family farm for their intimate first look. Plus some pictures in front of the barn before they set off on their day together.
I’m not sure if it was the fact that it was my first real venture back to work after having Wyatt but the day went by so fast. Before I knew it I was blinking away tears during speeches and keeping a close eye on the clouds hoping and praying the sun would stay out long enough for some sunset photos. But just like every other section of the day, it was absolutely perfect!

Thinking about Pinter’s Event Center for your wedding?
Pinter’s is one of those venues that takes a little explaining to someone who hasn’t been there, because it’s genuinely unlike anything else in northeast Iowa. The Pinter family started with a landscaping business back in 1998, grew into a garden center, pumpkin patch, apple orchard, and bakery, and then in 2020 added the event center. The result is a property with a life and a layered beauty to it that a purpose-built venue just doesn’t have.
Just a few minutes west of Decorah on Highway 9, it draws couples from all over Iowa and Minnesota — and once you see it, you understand why.
The ceremony spaces
The centerpiece of the ceremony experience is the natural stone amphitheater, which seats up to 200 and looks directly out onto apple orchards, gardens, and open Iowa countryside. It’s the kind of ceremony backdrop that photographs differently in every season — apple blossoms in May, full greenery in summer, red apples in September. If weather doesn’t cooperate, the 100-year-old reclaimed barn serves as the indoor ceremony space.
The reception hall
The indoor event center is open and light-filled with insulated glass overhead doors that open onto a paved patio when the weather allows. The main room seats 360, with a connected dining room that seats an additional 100 — up to 460 guests total. Tables, chairs, and a full bar are included. The team sets up and breaks down, which is genuinely one of those details that couples don’t fully appreciate until after the fact.
The grounds
This is where Pinter’s really sets itself apart. Pergolas, fountains, a koi pond, the greenhouse, the orchard, the gardens — there are photo opportunities literally everywhere you look, and they change with the seasons. No matter what time of year you get married here, the property gives you something beautiful to work with.
What it’s like to photograph here
I’ll be direct: this is one of the most photography-friendly venues I’ve worked at in northeast Iowa. The variety of backdrops alone is remarkable — stone amphitheater, apple orchard, greenhouse, open fields, reclaimed barn interior. The light in the reception hall is clean and workable, and golden hour on those open grounds is something I genuinely look forward to. Couples who care about having a wide range of photos from their day — not just the ceremony and reception, but real portraits in beautiful places — will love what Pinter’s makes possible.
