I am going to get real with y’all for a quick minute and just tell you that I didn’t like my own senior pictures. It isn’t that they weren’t good, but they were…how do I say this…boring: Very stiff. Very posed. Very not me. I was creative, fun loving, and down for any adventure but my pictures were standard and very cliche. Every detail was meticulously placed, one shot would be taken and then we would move on and before I knew it my session was over. I don’t remember feeling comfortable or even genuinely smiling at all that day. Then on top of it all, everyone else had the exact same poses and locations that I did. Needless to say, you won’t see any of my senior pictures in my high school scrapbook.

This memory is something I often remind myself before starting any type of session, whether that is a large family session in the park or a senior session down by the river. Everyone deserves photos that showcase who they are as an individual. Everyone deserves to feel confident and beautiful (or handsome). Everyone deserves to have unique photos of themselves rather than the cookie cutter standard portraits everyone has already seen. That is our number one focus here at Megan Howe Designs. Okay that wasn’t all that exciting, but that’s because I haven’t given you the best part yet.
