Tyler and Briana said their vows nestled in the midst of the pine trees on the Kacena Farms property. A picturesque view only made better by the people in attendance. And while it was warm, everyone was just excited for these two to become husband and wife!

Kacena Farms sits just outside Vinton in central Iowa, and it’s one of those venues that surprises people a little when they first pull in. The property is also a Christmas tree farm and pumpkin patch — which means the grounds have a life and a character to them that purpose-built venues don’t always have. It’s a working farm first. The wedding venue came second. And that order shows in the best possible way.
I photographed Tyler and Briana’s August wedding there, and even on the most humid day of the summer, the setting delivered. Vows in the pine trees. That kind of backdrop doesn’t need any dressing up.
The barn and ceremony spaces
The barn is climate controlled — heated in the cooler months, and that matters more than you’d think for a September or October wedding in Iowa. It seats up to 300 guests with wood farm tables for the head table and guest seating, plus round tables if that fits your layout better. Tables, chairs, and linens are all included, and so is a substantial collection of decor available at no extra cost — arches, whiskey barrels, a Victorian settee, a gutted piano, neon signs, and more. It’s the kind of inventory that makes the planning process a little lighter.
For the ceremony itself, there are several outdoor options on the property, as well as an indoor option inside the barn. The pergola and the pine grove are both worth considering depending on your season.
The getting-ready experience
This is one of the details I appreciate most as a photographer. The bridal party has a dedicated preparation cabin with an ensuite bathroom, and the groom has a separate cabin of his own. That kind of space — private, unhurried, no overlapping chaos — makes the morning of a wedding feel completely different. The photos from those quiet getting-ready moments tend to be some of the most treasured ones in the gallery.
The outdoor spaces
Beyond the barn there’s a large covered pavilion extending off the back, an outdoor seating area with a fire pit, and bistro lighting throughout. The property also has two full-service bars. It’s a complete setup — the kind where your guests can move through the evening naturally without feeling squeezed into one space.
What it’s like to photograph here
The pine trees on this property are genuinely special. Soft, filtered light, textured backgrounds, a sense of depth that doesn’t require any tricks from me. I love pulling couples into the grove for portraits. Plus the surrounding farm landscape gives you that open Iowa sky that photographs beautifully in golden hour. The mix of indoor barn light and outdoor natural light gives me a lot to work with throughout the day.
